Here is the view of our beautiful Paarl Valley.  In the distance, one notices the large granite outcrop Paarl Rock (2nd largest after Ayers Rock Australia), after which our town was named. The first settlers called the rock parel (dutch for pearl) as it glistened like one after rain.

Paarl, renowned for its illustrious past and haunting scenery, is situated 57 km from Cape Town in the Winelands of the Western Cape, with the Klein Drakenstein Mountains to the east.

Paarl has the only monument to a language in the world, Afrikaans.

In earlier days Paarl was the transport hub and wagon builders' centre for inland travel.
